Crowded Coasts and Rebranding Places
![]()
People have always lived by – and used – the coast. The coastal zone is one of the world’s most densely populated areas, yet it is also an area of considerable environmental value which can be vulnerable to human activity and to natural processes (Byrne et al 2008).
Regeneration, rebranding and reimaging has become increasingly prominent on government agendas in recent years, particularly in areas that have experienced significant economic or industrial decline (Warn et al, 2008)
In this unit the students will undertake fieldwork investigations into both of these topics.
Assessment:
1 hour 15 minute examination in two sections, taken in June of year 12.
The paper will assess the four optional topics offered. Candidates will answer one physical question (Crowded Coasts) from Section A and one human question (Rebranding Places) from Section B. The questions require longer responses, each with three parts, designed to include data response, investigation and evaluation skills and related impacts/management issues.
